NSFAS — National Student Financial Aid Scheme

South Africa's biggest funder of first-year and continuing students at public universities and TVET colleges. Covers tuition, accommodation, transport and living allowances based on a means test.
Eligibility: South African citizens and permanent residents studying or applying to study at a public university or TVET college who meet the means-test threshold (combined household income under R350 000 per year).
Dates on websiteApplications normally open around September when Grade 12 results are released and close between January and February. Always check the NSFAS portal for exact dates.
